Attracting birds was never a prerequisite of Dustcheck’s filter designs but it seems to be a side effect thanks to Steve Mullay, at Oxfordshire based artisan flour miller FWP Matthews, who saw an opportunity to use the filter element to create an unusual bird feeder.
By removing the outer filter material the pair set to work with modifications including adding an aluminium tray and threaded bar to hang the feeder from. By filling the core with bird seed the end result has seen the filter receive a new lease of life! Both Pete and Steve have the feeders in their gardens at home and are attracting an array of birds to the unusual creations!
Steve said: “The feeder is proving really popular in my garden! It’s great to have been able to reuse materials to produce something so useful! Everyone at work wants one now!â€
It’s the first time Dustcheck have seen their used cartridges used for something other than filtering! We’d love to hear from anyone else out there who has upcycled one of our products in an interesting or unusual way.
