A well-known UK pie manufacturer needed a DSEAR compliant dust extraction system to safely remove potentially explosive flour dust from various process lines in its production facility.
A Dustcheck Maxi 9 FS filter with an airflow of 12,000m³/hr and a 22.0kW top-mounted centrifugal fan was specified as part of a larger dust extraction system installation to effectively control flour dust.
As flour is highly combustible, an ATEX rated filter unit was required. The dust collector needed an explosion panel, but the location (the external car park) meant a wedge should be fitted to move the vent off the horizontal plane, so in the unlikely event of an explosion the flame would vent vertically up. On this unit, in lieu of the wedge, a DivEx Flame Deflector was fitted, so if the explosion vent ever bursts under an explosion the panel will hit the deflector bars and the flame will then vent up towards the sky.
