Industrial dust and air filtration system manufacturer Dustcheck Limited are proud to announce that they have been Highly Commended as they made it down to the final four in ‘Small Business of the Year Award’ at last week’s Staffordshire Chamber Awards 2016.
The category was judged in areas such as Leadership, Staff Development, Financial Performance, Growth Plans and Corporate and Social Responsibility. The nominations process started with an in-depth application followed by a visit from Wolverhampton University, the category judge. A scoring system was then used and fed back to judges who made the final decision.
The company has gone through several changes over the last two years. The business owners and joint Managing Directors Ed and Di Spires retired and took position of Joint Chairpersons in 2014 making way for a new Management Team. Technical Director, Nigel Hubbard has taken the reigns as MD, supported by Production Director Bill Moran and Sales Director Pete Dawson.
At the end of 2015 Dustcheck opened a new 347 square meter Stores, Assembly and Training Facility allowing expansion of both the stores and manufacturing areas. This has supported the growth the company has seen in orders placed over the last 18-months. The Training Facility has allowed for on-site training for customers, staff and distributers and is proving invaluable in supporting the company’s new Training Plan.
In a commitment to the environment Dustcheck commissioned two solar panel installations across both sites last year; these will see a 5-times return in investment over the next 20 years. As part of their Corporate Social Responsibility they support local charity Douglas Macmillan with fundraising and a corporate donation and also sponsor local Rugby Club, Newcastle-under-Lyme RC.
As well as employing two apprentices in the workshop and drawing office the Managing Director, Nigel Hubbard also provides one to one student mentoring and an internship for a student at St Thomas More Catholic Academy; both helping to develop local, young people for the future.
The awards saw hundreds of applications across 11 categories and with the Small Business of the Year category alone attracting over 50 nominations, Dustcheck are extremely proud to have made it to the shortlist on the night.
“Dustcheck has a reputation for quality, innovation and customer service. We’ve seen a marked growth over the last four years and this has led to the expansion of our manufacturing facility and an investment in staff – all of which underpinned the reason for our recognition at the awards on Thursday,†said Nigel Hubbard, Managing Director of Dustcheck.
The Fenton based business have already won the ‘Company of the Year’ category at the Solids Handling Industry Awards, held in April this year.
